    New York City
    Silver

    Overall: 11 3/16 x 14 7/16 x 11 3/8 in., 1282.7 grams (28.4 x 36.7 x 28.9 cm, 41.24 troy ounces)
    Morris K. Jesup Fund, 1954 (54.167)

This is a very rare instance of an American-made silver basket of the sort used for bread, cake, or fruit. The monogram on the interior indicates that Myer Myers supplied it to Susannah and Samuel Cornell. Myers made several objects for these wealthy patrons from New York and New Bern, North Carolina. According to the inscription on the underside of the basket, the Cornells later gave it to their daughter Hannah, who married Herman LeRoy on October 19, 1786.
