Sully made numerous pencil sketches in order to get the queen's costume and regalia just right. Here, he drew her neckline with special attention to the Order of the Garter worn on the back of her robe. He inscribed the drawing: "Fastens on Shoulder / with white Satin ribbon / over Robe."
