    The Museum owns the only eight extant folios from this remarkable Qur’an, including its colophon, which explains that the manuscript was copied by the scribe Muhammad al-Zanjani from the town of Zanjan in northwestern Iran and completed in 531 A.H./1137 A.D. These two facing illuminated pages include a text—sometimes placed at the beginning of a manuscript—discussing the number of verses contained in the Qur’an.
