Ceramics in the form of gourds are common to many cultures, including the Precolumbian. The particular shape of this elegant little vase, however, is probably inspired by an imported Chinese vessel of the Wanli period (1573–1620). Its decoration shows the evolution of the local Pueblan aborronado pattern as individual dots spread out to form foliate designs.
