Furnishings for the home, subjected to rough use, were usually woven in wool or camel and goat hair, so this fine curtain in silk must have been made for a special occasion or an aristocratic home. Curtains were composed of a number of panels—usually at least six—joined together by silk ribbons or fine lace. The geometric patterns on traditional Tunisian textiles are similar to those used on pottery, jewelry, and designs painted on women.
