  • Ewer with profile busts of a man and a woman, ca. 1520
Possibly workshop of Maestro Giorgio Andreoli (Italian, ca. 1465–1553)
    Tin–glazed earthenware (maiolica), with luster; H. 7 1/4 in. (18.4 cm)
Gift of V. Everit Macy, in memory of his wife, Edith Carpenter Macy, 1927 (27.97.39)

This rather rare ewer, painted with golden luster and touches of red luster on a bright blue ground, is characteristic of Maestro Giorgio Andreoli, the hugely successful potter in Gubbio. It is decorated with profile busts of a man and a woman in contemporary garb, typical of the imagery on objects believed to have been produced for betrothals and weddings.
