About The Met Store

Does The Met Store sell reproductions of works of art from the Museum's collection?
The Met Store offers a wide range of books and objects based on the Museum's encyclopedic permanent collection, which spans more than 5,000 years of world culture. We also sell items created for special exhibitions, items produced in collaboration with sister institutions, and related products purchased from the trade. Learn more about the Museum's reproductions and publications program.

Are all of the products sold in the Museum shop at 1000 Fifth Avenue available online?
The online Met Store offers many of the products found in the Museum shop, including special exhibition merchandise and Met Bestsellers, as well as most of the items featured in our print catalogues. If you cannot find a particular item, please contact Customer Service for assistance.

How can I find out if The Met Store sells a reproduction of a particular artwork?
Either enter the name of the artist or work in the search field located on the left navigation in the online Met Store, or contact Store Service for assistance.

Where can I find information about the original work of art from which an item is reproduced?
Most items are accompanied by descriptive texts that provide detailed information about the artwork on which they are based. If you require more information about the product itself, please contact Store Service. To learn more about the original work of art, please consult the Collection to see a selection of the Metropolitan's holdings. In addition, Educational Resources provides options for further research.

How do I search for a product online?
Enter a keyword or words into the search field located on the left navigation in the online Met Store. For the best results, see Search Tips. You may also view products by category, such as jewelry, books, or sculpture, in Browse The Met Store.

How do I find a product using the item number from The Met Store's catalogue?
If you know the item number, use the Order From Our Catalogue feature to find a product quickly and easily, or enter the item number into the search field located on the left navigation in the online Met Store.

Where can I see a selection of items by price range or special occasion?
To locate items by price, special occasion, or holiday, see the Gift Guide.

Does The Met Store offer sale items and seasonal product features?
Yes. A variety of discounted items can be found under Special Values, and every few weeks we feature a selection of seasonal products in the Gift Services section.

Is my Member discount available online?
Yes. In order to receive your 10% discount, enter your Member number during Check Out in the field below Billing Information. Your savings will appear automatically on the Order Review page. As an added privilege, Members may also shop in the Special Offers for Members area, where we offer additional savings on products exclusive to the online Met Store.

How can I receive promotional offers and discounts from The Met Store?
Sign up for Met Store email to receive notices of special offers and new product features. You can also look for discounts and promotion codes in our mailings or catalogues. If you have received a promotion code, simply enter it during Check Out in the field below Billing Information and your savings will appear automatically on the Order Review page. Promotion codes are 4-character codes that begin with the letter H (for example: H517).

Placing an Order

How do I place an online order?
Once you have selected items on individual product pages using "Add to Basket," click on the "Check Out" icon located at the top of the page to enter your billing information, shipping information, and credit card number. Remember to enter your Member number or a promotion code, if applicable, during Check Out. "Submit Using Our Secure Server" and your order will be processed in a few moments—security guaranteed. Visit the online Met Store.

How do I place an order if I don't want to make a purchase online?
You may also order by telephone, fax, or mail. To place an order by telephone from the United States and Canada, please call toll-free 800-468-7386, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. From other locations, please dial the appropriate United States access code, then 212-731-1498 Monday through Friday, 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Eastern time. Please print your online order form to use as a guide and have your credit card ready. For credit card purchases only, you may also fax an order 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Please print your online order form, billing information, and shipping information (if different from your billing information) and fax to 718-628-5485. Clearly indicate your name, telephone number, and fax number on every page.

Please print your online order form and enclose with your check or money order payable to "The Metropolitan Museum of Art." Checks must be in United States dollars and drawn on a United States bank. Please do not send cash or international money orders.

Do I need to register on The Met Store site before placing an order?
No, you do not need to register before placing an order online. However, you may decide to register for greater ease of shopping. To take advantage of Rapid Checkout, register in My Met Museum and be sure to select "Remember My Log-In" to have your name and address automatically filled in on the order form. When you register, you can also sign up for Met Store email to receive monthly notices of special offers and discounts.

Does The Met Store offer gift messages and gift wrap?
You may include a gift message up to 120 characters in length, free of charge, with any order. Enter your message during Check Out in the field below Shipping Information. Most items can be specially packaged as gifts for an additional $5 per item in either our signature presentation or our MetKids presentation. Please note that gift wrapping for Memberships is only available in the colorful Museum logo portfolio for a cost of $6.00. A gift card for your handwritten message is included. If you indicate a gift message during Check Out, we will write out the gift card for you and include it with your Gift Membership order.
Please check the box next to each item you would like gift-wrapped on the Shopping Basket page. Oversized items such as framed prints, posters, some sculpture, and very large children's toys cannot be boxed or wrapped. See details.

Can I purchase a Membership online?
Yes. Please visit Purchase a Membership to select from among the Museum's 15 levels of Membership. When you purchase a Membership online you are immediately eligible for the 10% Member discount, which will be applied automatically to your order. You may also purchase gift Memberships online. Gift Memberships can be handsomely packaged in a colorful Museum logo portfolio for an additional $6 charge. A gift card for your handwritten message is included. If you indicate a gift message during Check Out, we will write out the gift card for you and include it with your Gift Membership order.

How do I use a promotion code online?
If you have received a promotion code via Met Store email or one of our mailings or catalogues, simply enter the 4-character code that begins with the letter H (for example: H517) during Check Out in the field below Billing Information and your savings will appear on the Order Review page. You may use the same promotion code more than once, provided you meet the order total requirements for each order and the code has not expired. Please note that only one code can be entered per order.

How do I take advantage of the special offer I see advertised on some products?
For offers that provide special pricing on groups of items sold together, simply add the appropriate set to your shopping basket. In order to receive the discount on products that advertise a special offer when buying in multiples of two, you must add the correct quantity to your basket (for example: 2, 4, 6).The discount will then be reflected in the order subtotal of your shopping basket. If you purchase an additional unit, you will be charged the individual item price. For example, if you add a quantity of 3 to your cart, you will receive the special offer discount on two items and pay regular price for the third. We also offer quantity discounts on purchases of two or more of the same item for select products. To take advantage of these offers, simply add the desired quantity to your basket and the discount will be applied on the second and additional units and reflected in the order subtotal of your shopping basket.

Will tax be applied to my order?
Sales and use tax will be calculated based on the regulations for the area to which an order is delivered. Sales and use tax is required for purchases delivered to Georgia, New Jersey, New York, and Texas. There is no tax on the purchase of Memberships.

I represent an organization with tax-exempt status. Can I place a tax-exempt order online?
The Museum honors the tax-exempt status of eligible institutions. However, you cannot automatically place a tax-exempt order in the online Met Store. Please contact Customer Service for assistance. A representative will instruct you to mail or fax your order with a copy of your exemption certificate.

I represent an educational institution. Is my educational discount available online?
Educators receive a 10% discount on educational materials at the Museum. However, you cannot automatically receive your discount in the online Met Store. Please contact Customer Service for assistance. A representative will instruct you to mail or fax your order with a copy of your valid I.D. from an educational institution.

Payment, Shipping, and Delivery

What forms of payment does The Met Store accept?
You must use a credit card to place an order in the online Met Store. We accept American Express, Visa, MasterCard, Diners Club, and Discover/Novus. Please be sure to include the expiration date in mm/yyyy format (for example: 04/2008).

Is it safe to use my credit card online?
The Metropolitan Museum makes every reasonable effort to ensure that all of the transactions that occur on our website are secure. All credit card numbers submitted to the site are encrypted using "Secure Socket Layer" (SSL) encryption. SSL technology is an industry standard for protecting sensitive information as it is transmitted over the Internet. The online Met Store is a VeriSign Secure Site.

What shipping options does The Met Store offer?
The categories of shipping available online are United States standard delivery, United States express delivery, United States priority delivery, Canadian delivery, and International delivery. Express delivery is available only for packages delivered within the contiguous United States, and does not apply to post office box or rural route addresses. For information about express delivery outside the contiguous United States, please contact Customer Service. Express delivery is not available when purchasing Memberships.

What are your delivery times?
With standard delivery to the contiguous United States, most orders will arrive within 5 to 10 business days. Standard delivery to Canada, Hawaii, Alaska, APO, FPO, and United States Territories will arrive within 5 to 15 business days. With express delivery, orders will arrive within 2 business days. With priority delivery, orders will arrive the next business day. International delivery times vary from country to country, but with standard delivery most packages arrive within 2 to 6 weeks. We will advise you by mail of any delay in shipping that exceeds 30 days. The delivery time for Memberships is 1 to 2 weeks.

Will my order arrive in one package?
For the greatest care and protection in shipping, your items may be packaged in separate boxes. Please note that this will not affect your shipping charges (you will only be charged once for delivery of all shipments), but you may receive the boxes at different times or on different days.

What are your shipping and delivery rates? Are there additional fees for framed posters, sculpture, or other oversized items?
Shipping charges are based on delivery location and order total. There is no shipping charge for Memberships. There are no additional fees for larger items within the contiguous United States. Please see shipping and delivery rates for details. For non-contiguous United States and international delivery, oversized items such as framed prints, posters, and some sculpture will incur a shipping surcharge. Please contact Customer Service for rates.

Can my order be shipped to multiple addresses?
Each order placed in the online Met Store can only be shipped to a single address. To send gifts to more than one recipient, please place multiple orders with different shipping information for each address, or contact Customer Service for assistance.

Do you deliver to addresses outside the United States?
Yes. We will ship your order to any country in the world.

Who is responsible for duties and taxes for orders shipped outside the United States?
The recipients of shipments are responsible for any duties and taxes.

Are there any shipping restrictions for packages delivered outside the United States? What if I have special shipping instructions?
If you have questions about sending items that may be restricted or prohibited in another country, or have special shipping instructions, please contact Customer Service.

What if I have a question or problem when placing an order online?
If you have a question or problem placing your order, please speak to a Customer Service representative. From within the United States and Canada, call toll-free 800-662-3397 Monday through Friday, 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Eastern time. From other locations, please dial the appropriate United States access code, then 212-731-1498. You may also email customer.service@metmuseum.org.

How can I find out about the status of my order? What if I need to change or cancel an order?
To inquire about an order you have placed, or to change or cancel your order, please contact Customer Service. Please provide the 6-character order number found in your confirmation email so we can research your order.

How will I know if my order went through?
You will receive an order confirmation email to acknowledge our receipt of your order with an order number that you may use for reference with Customer Service if you have any questions. You will also receive shipping confirmation emails as packages are sent.

Returns and Exchanges

What is The Met Store's policy for returns and exchanges?

Online and Catalogue Purchases
Merchandise will be accepted for exchange or refund within 180 days from the date of purchase, provided the merchandise is current and in saleable condition (unless the merchandise was damaged or defective at the time it was received). If merchandise was damaged during shipping, please contact Customer Service for instructions. Recipients of gifts will be refunded at the price paid by the purchaser, provided the original order can be identified. Without a packing slip, a refund check will be issued at the lowest selling price. Shipping and handling charges will not be refunded.

Any purchase made online or from the catalogue on or after September 1, 2007, is subject to this return policy.

To exchange or return an item, please complete the form that comes with your order (easy-to-follow instructions are included). Using the return label provided on the reverse of the form, please send your shipment by insured Parcel Post or UPS to:

Retail Store Purchases
Upon presentation of a receipt, merchandise in saleable condition will be accepted for an exchange or return within 90 days from the date of purchase. Without a receipt, a store credit will be issued at the lowest selling price.

Any retail store purchase made on or after July 1, 2007, is subject to this return policy.

What if I don't receive my package, or items arrive damaged?
If your package never arrives or if items are damaged in transit, please contact Customer Service.

Privacy and Security Information

What information is collected when I place an online order or request a catalogue online?
The Metropolitan Museum of Art respects your privacy. When you make a purchase or request a catalogue online in The Met Store we will ask you to provide the personally identifiable information necessary to fulfill your order or catalogue request that may include your name, billing and shipping addresses, telephone number, and credit card number. This is the same information requested when you place an order by telephone or through the mail. For online orders or when you request a catalogue online, we also require your email address so you can receive order and shipping confirmation emails and so we can communicate with you if we have difficulty processing your order or catalogue request. Is my credit card information kept securely?
All credit card numbers submitted to our website are encrypted using "Secure Socket Layer" (SSL) encryption. SSL technology is an industry standard for protecting sensitive information as it is transmitted over the Internet. For even greater security, credit card information is deleted from our website after we have successfully completed your transaction. We retain your credit card details for our order records, but this information is never shared with third parties. The online Met Store is a VeriSign Secure site.

Do you share information with other companies?
The Museum may share the information you provide when you purchase an item online in The Met Store (such as your name and your postal and/or email address) with other reputable organizations or companies whose products and services might interest you. If you prefer not to have your personally identifiable information shared in this way, you may check the "Please don't make my name available" box on the order form when you check out in The Met Store. You may also send us an email at customer.service@metmuseum.org requesting that we not share your personally identifiable information with third parties for marketing purposes.

What independent third party privacy guidelines do you adhere to?
As part of our commitment to your privacy, The Met Store supports and adheres to the guidelines and practices outlined in The Direct Marketing Association Privacy Promise, an assurance to consumers that marketers who are DMA members will use information in a manner that respects customer wishes.

You may Request a Catalogue or Met Store email online, or you may contact Customer Service for assistance.

Does the Metropolitan have retail stores other than the Museum shop at 1000 Fifth Avenue? Where are they located?
There are 12 Met Stores across the United States, and 17 in Europe, Mexico, and Asia. Please visit the location nearest you.
