The gilt metal frame is glazed at the back to reveal an ivory backing decorated with pansies, leaves, and a bowknot, all fashioned from two types of hair, one brown and one fair.

Lemoine-Richard [see Ref. 2003] attributes the miniature to Mortier and states that there is a pendant by the same artist.
