Watercolor over pencil; 14 1/8 x 11 3/16 in. (35.8 x 28.4 cm)
Robert Lehman Collection, 1975 (1975.1.940)
This charming depiction of a woman stepping off a departing streetcar and running across the tracks is one of fifty-eight sheets, all in the Robert Lehman Collection, from Prendergast's "Large Boston Public Garden Sketchbook." The drawings and watercolors of this now-dismantled sketchbook principally show the cheerful activities of elegantly attired women, who are seen riding bicycles, pushing prams, strolling with parasols, and resting on park benches.
