Engraved on body: gridiron, Beef Steak Club, BEEF AND LIBERTY, PALMAN QUI MERUIT FERAT. [trans.: Let him who deserves it carry the palm]

Scratched on bottom: 13-12

[2] Lion's head erased (English quality mark for sterling);
[3] Gothic v (London date letter for 1715–16);
[4] WI, in shaped rectangle (maker's mark for John Wisdom).
