This statue is a free copy of the bronze figure in the Museo Capitolino, Rome, of a boy extracting a thorn from his foot, universally know as the Spinario. Gagini's version once served as a fountain figure at the top of a staircase in Palazzo Alcontres, Messina. Inscribed near the foot were his signature and the date 1500.
