Simply decorated or unadorned metallic vessels of similar shape to this Hellenistic bowl have a long tradition throughout the Ancient Near East and Mediterranean basin. Examples of this type of bowl, which were made in not only bronze but also gold and silver, have been found in Crete, Cyprus, and Persia with dates ranging from the 11th–1st century B.C.
