Seated Angel

Not on view

The border of this album page is characteristically Turkish in the form of the palmettes, dentated leaves, and five petalled flowers on the thin stemmed scroll with its little curling tendrils. The arabesques scrolls of the cartouches are also typical in their tight spirals and resemblance to cut-steel. The arabesques above and below the angel in their robust rhythms resemble Turkish tile decoration.
