Hexagonal Tile with Floral Design

Not on view

Hexagonal tiles in blue and white or blue, turquoise, and white were frequently used in combination with monochrome triangular tiles to adorn the walls of mosques and palaces. The design on this tile mirrors those which decorate the facade of the Sünnet Odasi (Circumcision Room) in the Topkapi Saray in istanbul. Tiles were often painted with a master stencil, which allowed the mass production of certain patterns.
