Bowl with Seated Figure
Not on view
The large figure that dominates the interior of this bowl holds a piece of fruit and is seated next to a long-necked ewer. Although an Arabic inscription on the exterior consists of a string of beneficial terms—such as “glory, prosperity, long life, grace”—the figure, ewer, and fruit direct our attention to the pleasure derived from eating and drinking and allude to the function of the bowl as a receptacle for food or even drink.
