The konk‘er is worn hanging from a bishop’s waist as a symbol of his rank. At the center of the textile are the Virgin and Child, a composition based on Byzantine images found at the church of Hagia Sophia in Constantinople. The symbols of the four evangelists are depicted in the four corners, around the Virgin and Child.
