Male Palace Attendant

China

Not on view

The elongation of the body and somewhat childish features exhibited here typify works produced in the capital at Luoyang in the first three decades of the sixth century. This distinctive style is understood to reflect an awareness of and appreciation for Chinese aesthetics on the part of the foreign rulers of the Northern Wei dynasty.
