An 1898 article in The Jewelers’ Circular lauds this service as “one of the most artistic silver sets ever produced by the hands of an American silversmith.” Tiffany factory records describe it as a “tête-à-tête” and as “Persian.” Near Eastern and Asian sources clearly inspired both the forms and the ornament, which is executed in sophisticated, subtly shaded enamels.
