Travel through years of art in the #MetKids Time Machine!

«Ever wonder what you might need to travel through time? Maybe a notebook to record all the amazing things you see, a backpack to collect some fun items to bring back, and some snacks in case you get hungry. What you definitely will need is a time machine.»

Wondering where you are going to find one? Fear not—The Met has your back! We've got an awesome #MetKids time machine that will transport you through 5,000 years of history and help you find fascinating objects from around the world in the Museum. Let's travel through time together and check out some of the fun things you might want to uncover on your adventure!

If you are interested in going very far back in history to find some of the oldest artworks in The Met collection, like this storage jar decorated with mountain goats, go ahead and select "8000–2000 B.C." under "Time Periods." Pottery, like this jar, is the most common type of artifact that archaeologists find in ancient city ruins.

[@portabletext/react] Unknown block type "__block", specify a component for it in the `components.types` prop

Storage jar decorated with mountain goats. Chalcolithic (ca. 3800–3700 B.C.). From Central Iran. Ceramic, paint; 20 7/8 in. (53cm). The Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York, Ceramics-Vessels, Purchase, Joseph Pulitzer Bequest, 1959 (59.52)

Get creative with your searches by selecting multiple categories to see what objects might come up with different combinations. Try choosing a time period and a geographical location. You might discover some amazing items, like Isamu Noguchi's water stone, which can be found by choosing "1900–Present and Asia" on the time machine. The stone weighs a ton! It weighs as much as a car does.

Need help picking out something to wear for the day? No problem. You can use the time machine to find some outfit inspiration! Under "Big Ideas," choose "fashion." It will show you all the best outfits from across time periods and might make you want to make some fancy cuffs. In fact, you can do it right now! Watch #MetKids—Design Your Own Fashion Accessory: Fancy Cuffs and follow along to learn how to make your newest fashion statement.

There are so many big ideas, time periods, and places that you can visit with the help of the time machine. Head over and hop in to see where it takes you, but whatever you do, don't press that blinking green button on the side!
