Sound the alphorn and the ophicleide! "Fanfare" heralds the opening of the first of The Met’s renovated musical instrument galleries. From the most simple conches and animal horns to the complicated design of modern trumpets, the newly opened Fanfare gallery chronicles the use of brass instruments to signal, express status, accompany rituals and make music. Explore their artistry, diverse forms and interwoven uses in this striking installation that spans two millennia and five continents. Travel through time and around the globe with this series of celebratory concerts.
