An Evening with Artist Kent Monkman

Free, though advance registration is required.

Kent Monkman, artist
Randall Griffey, Curator, Modern and Contemporary Art, The Met

Join Cree artist Kent Monkman and curator Randall Griffey for a dynamic discussion about Monkman's monumental paintings for The Met's Great Hall. Known for his provocative interventions into Western European and American art history, Monkman explores themes of colonization, sexuality, loss, and resilience across a variety of mediums, including painting, film, performance, and installation. The artist's gender-fluid alter ego, Miss Chief Eagle Testickle, who often appears in his work as a time-traveling, shape-shifting, supernatural being who reverses the colonial gaze, begins the evening with a short lecture. Note: Space is limited; advance registration required.

Presented in conjunction with the exhibition The Great Hall Commission: Kent Monkman, mistikôsiwak (Wooden Boat People).

Registration is now closed.

Use the main entrance at Fifth Avenue and 82nd Street.
