Hanuman Revives Rama and Lakshmana with Medicinal Herbs: Illustrated folio from a dispersed Ramayana series

Workshop active in the First generation after Nainsukh Indian

Not on view

At the upper left, Hanuman is flying through the air carrying the peak of a Himalayan mountain on which medicinal herbs grow. The mountain peak is seen (lower right), while Hanuman, with a handful of herbs, approaches and revives Rama and Lakshmana, who had been rendered unconscious on the field of battle outside the golden palace of Lanka (upper right). King Vibhishana accompanies Hanuman. Continuing the achievements of the Kangra school, this work combines astute naturalism in its attention to details with an illusionistic approach to landscape.
