In 1957 the U.S. Army announced that Elvis Presley had been drafted for military service. To simulate what the pop idol would look like with the standard G.I. haircut, a retoucher at the United Press news agency used an airbrush to trim his trademark pompadour and sideburns, revealing a rather misshapen version of the future Private Presley.
Inscription: United Press Photo stamps on verso; mimeographed captions affixed to verso.
