Objects used by Turkmen and Central Asian women were sometimes made of silver and richly ornamented. Such is the case with this pair of combs. They may have been produced in the same workshop as the cudgel no. 2010.501.9, as both are chased with similar designs of split-leaf arabesques and deer, and inlaid with settings of carnelian and turquoise in combination.
