Gift of Subhash Kapoor, in memory of his parents, Smt Shashi Kanta and Shree Parshotam Ram Kapoor, 2008
Not on view
This is likely a portrait of Ranbir Singh, an attribution supported by the inscription at the upper left identifying the subject as "Maharaja of Jammu." Great attention has been paid to his facial features, his striking upturned moustache, and his jeweled turban in contrast to the rather formulaic treatment of his body and the throne.
Inscription: Inscription at upper left "Maharaja of Jammu" (Freedman, 2003, p. 194).
Possibly Shri Parshotam Ram Kapoor , Jalandhar and New Delhi, India ; Subhash Kapoor , New York (until 2008; donated to MMA)
