Guntbald Sacramentary

German

Not on view

This sacramentary, containing the texts used to celebrate the Mass, is beautifully elaborated with gold and silver ornamental letters manipulated into foliate patterns and narrative scenes. In one instance, the T of Te igitur (the first words of the first prayer) is transformed into a crucifix. The attribution at the end of the book to the scribe Guntbald is uncertain, as it is written in a different and later script than the rest of the work.
