Jug with Eagle

Italian

On view at The Met Fifth Avenue in Gallery 307

Orvieto was one of the earliest centers in Italy to compete with Spanish potters in the production of glazed earthenware. The rich repertory of motifs included birds, monsters, and fantastical animals rendered in broad, bold strokes in a limited palette of copper green and manganese brown.
