Biblia Sacra

Wooducts by Christoffel van Sichem II Dutch

Not on view

Many of the original woodblocks for Cristoffel van Sichem’s prints, first used in the Biblia Sacra, were purchased by an Armenian printing press in Amsterdam. These images became popular models for Armenian religious art, including liturgical metalwork. Van Sichem’s compositions were inspired by prints produced by European artists, including Albrecht Dürer and others, thus they introduced a variety of Western styles to Armenian art.
