George Kendall Warren American

Not on view

Warren, who lived from 1851 to 1870 in Lowell, Massachusetts, worked first as a daguerreotypist and later as a contract photographer for Northeastern colleges. He provided graduating students with class portraits and handsome views of their school environs for collegiate albums and dormitories. In this elegant study of the celebrated Hudson River topography and Catskill Mountain foothills, Warren placed his large view camera just above the artillery canons facing north from the grounds of the United States Military Academy at West Point.
