Harper’s New Monthly Magazine, launched in 1850, brought American readers a rich selection of material devoted to culture, travel and current events, as well as contemporary literature. This issue contains “Antoine’s Moose-Yard,” which describes an trip by American city-dwellers to Ontario during a frigid Canadian winter, as well as an article that discusses the agriculture of Chile, both pieces illustrated by Frederic Remington.
