Alejandro Santo Domingo Elected a Trustee at The Metropolitan Museum of Art

(New York, September 8, 2009)—Alejandro Santo Domingo has been elected to the Board of Trustees of The Metropolitan Museum of Art, it was announced today by James R. Houghton, the Museum's Chairman. Mr. Santo Domingo's election took place at the September 8 meeting of the Board.

Active in business and finance, Alejandro Santo Domingo is a Senior Managing Director at the investment advisory firm Quadrant Capital Advisors. In addition, he is involved in the management of Grupo Santo Domingo, a family-owned conglomerate, and sits on the boards of many companies it controls. Previously, as an analyst and later as an associate at the investment banking firm Violy Byorum & Partners from 1999 to 2002, he focused on mergers and acquisitions in the telecommunications, media, consumer goods, and airline industries.

Commenting on the election, James R. Houghton said: "I am pleased to welcome Alejandro to the Museum's Board of Trustees. He has been a dynamic force in the Museum's Apollo Circle since 2004, and has enthusiastically and energetically supported museum acquisitions through a variety of activities. The broad range of his experiences and interests promises to strengthen our institution in innumerable ways."

Thomas P. Campbell, the Metropolitan Museum's Director, stated: "In addition to his international business experience and his appreciation of art, Alejandro brings the perspective of a new generation to our board. I look forward to working with him in his new capacity in the coming years."

In addition to Mr. Santo Domingo's activities at the Metropolitan Museum, he is on the board of Thirteen (WNET), New York City's public television network; DKMS Americas, an organization that connects marrow and stem cell donors with patients who have leukemia or other blood diseases; and the non-profit AID for AIDS, which is committed to improving the quality of life for people living with HIV/AIDS in developing countries and who are immigrants to the United States. He also serves on the boards of foundations and organizations involved in poverty reduction, sustainable development, and children's education, health, and nutrition in Colombia. He is president of the executive committee of the ALAS Foundation ("Latin America for Solidarity"), launched by the singer Shakira and Nobel Prize laureate writer Gabriel García Márquez to fight child poverty in Latin America.

A graduate of Harvard University, Mr. Santo Domingo lives in New York City.
