Silver spoon

Roman

On view at The Met Fifth Avenue in Gallery 169

This eating utensil was originally a combination spoon and knife. The small iron knife that folded into the handle of the spoon is now missing, but one can still see the hinge and the slot along the handle for the blade. Another example (17.192.254) is on view in the Museum's galleries of Medieval Art.
