Disagreements with the German guilds caused Martin to move to the United States in 1833. A carpenter’s son, he learned to build guitars in the style of Stauffer in Vienna, but was later influenced by Spanish designs. This guitar features many Spanish elements, including its body profile, slotted headstock, and tie bridge.
