K–12 School Group Visit Request Form

Make The Met part of your school year! The Museum is currently accepting appointment requests for guided and self-guided visits.

The Met welcomes all school-age learners. We invite you to request either a guided visit led by trained Museum educators and volunteers or a self-guided visit, which allows you to lead your own students through the Museum. Please note that appointments are required for all school groups visiting the Museum.

Guided-visit appointments can be made no less than three weeks in advance of the requested visit date, and self-guided-visit appointments can be made no less than two weeks in advance. A separate form must be submitted for each visit, and we will do our best to accommodate your request(s). However, due to high volume, your visit is not confirmed until you have received a confirmation letter by email from the Museum.

Before submitting your request, please consult your school's administration and calendar regarding bus maintenance days, testing days, school holidays, and half days. When selecting date and time preferences for your visit, please consider approximate travel time from your school, as well as any guidelines your school may have regarding school bus departure and return times.

The Metropolitan Museum of Art's school tour program is made possible by the generosity of Lewis B. and Dorothy Cullman.

Group Size

In order to respond to high demand, we must limit each school to no more than one group of up to fifty students per day at The Met Fifth Avenue and no more than one group of up to twenty-five students per day at The Met Breuer. Exceptions are considered on a case-by-case basis only; you will have the opportunity to explain your situation in the Visit Information section of this form.

We require one chaperone for every ten students. Each required chaperone is charged the student admission rate; each additional chaperone is charged the adult group admission rate. (One teacher or group leader per reservation receives complimentary admission.) Museum visits are free of charge for schools located within the five boroughs of New York City. Qualified tour operators are eligible for discounted rates. The Museum reserves the right to limit the number of adult chaperones participating in school group guided visits.

Visit Information
Please note that changing your visit topic may require changes to your date and time preferences.

You have requested a guided visit. These hour-long tours are led by trained Museum educators and volunteers and offer amazing opportunities for your students to make the most of their encounters with great works of art. Our educators engage students in fun, learner-centered, inquiry-based conversations that foster curriculum connections and encourage important learning skills such as evidence-based reasoning and critical thinking. Guided visits also inspire students to build strong content knowledge across disciplines, and support their confidence, curiosity, and creativity.

Due to the high demand for weekday morning guided tours, individual schools are limited to three weekday morning guided visits per semester. Please note that not all visit topics are available at all times.
