Coffin of Ukhhotep, son of Hedjpu
Middle Kingdom
A yellow painted eye panel and undecorated side panels punctuation by bands of boldly drawn hieroglyphic texts make up the exterior decoration of the coffin of the chief treasurer Ukhhotep, son of Hedjpu. The interior, however, is elaborately adorned with an frieze of ritual objects, piles of food offerings, a second eye panel, and numerous spells from the Coffin Texts written in cursive hieroglyphic script. Three of the coffin's four battens are restored.
