Relief fragment with large scale vine and inscription referring to daughters of Akhenaten
New Kingdom, Amarna Period
This relief was discovered in the Sanctuary area of the Great Aten Temple at Amarna. Beneath a structure hung with vines inscriptions refer to the figures who were depicted below. To the far right the king's title faces the queen's title to the left. Two columns following refer to a princess - "the king's daughter of his own body whom he loves [............, born of] the great royal wife whom he loves [Nefertiti]. The second set of columns at the left edge refer to a second princess with exactly the same titularies.
The organization of the inscriptions suggests the scene depicted a bower-like structure with Akhenaten seated to the left, faced by Nefertiti and two of their daughters.
