This calyx-krater is decorated with an actor, known as a phlyax, who wears the characteristic padded costume and grotesque mask. He is masquerading as a reveler with an enormous torch. His skin-tight costume with sleeves and trousers does not quite cover his simulated nudity. An oversize mantle is draped over his left arm, and one has the impression that the actor is about to trip over it.
