O’Hara is largely associated with performance, drawing, and music. Her screenprints reflect various kinds of movement, energy, sounds, and sensations. For Romy at Play in Frühlingstrasse, Gräfelfing, Germany she worked from a drawing she had made while watching a five-year-old daughter of a friend at play, both indoors and outside. Using a pencil, her marks reflect the movements and paths of Romy as she ran between various spaces, played with toys, and chased a pet cat. O’Hara’s marks are rendered with various tones of silvery grey against the black paper. The irregularity and scratchy quality corresponds to both the sensation of her drawing and of the frenetic energy of a young child at play.
