Autumn Breeze

Uematsu Chikuyū Japanese

Not on view

Uematsu Chikuyū is a perfectionist who limits his production to one piece a year. He lives in seclusion, devoting his full attention to his bamboo works, and has experimented with wall sculptures as well as with contemporary reinterpretations of traditional bamboo craft. Autumn Breeze is inspired by a type of sencha tray in the form of a large banana leaf made by famed bamboo craftsmen such as Iizuka Rōkansai and Maeda Chikubōsai I. Uematsu’s large, standing pinwheel shape consists of six meticulously executed leaves seemingly in motion.
