The text Wen Peng has written out is not his own composition, but a letter written by Wang Xianzhi (344–388) to an unidentified friend. It reads:
My new wife seems to have improved a little since she took a dose of foxglove broth, but her eating and sleeping are still not good. I just can't quit worrying. I think I must touch upon the matter which you discussed before. How come master Xie has not yet returned? To engage oneself or withdraw can't be explained. So I commit my question to writing.
