Offering List and Piled Offerings
Middle Kingdom
In adition to his elaborate pyramid temple, Senwosret I had a small chapel that was attached to the north side of his pyramid, above the entrance to the hidden burial chambers. The walls of this chapel were decorated with scenes pertaining to the offering ritual, including the king seated before an offering table, piled offerings, offering bearers, and a false door for symbolic communication with the king's spirit.
This gridlike offering list enumerates the specific types of products that the king expected to receive. To the right, the partially preserved vulture goddess Nekhbet faces the king's Horus name, "Living in births." The piece comes from the chapel's east wall.
