Hand-colored engraving with design for the costume of a Merveilleuse, part of the book "Incroyables et Merveilleuses," with 33 costume plates designed by Horace Vernet and engraved by Georges Jacques Gatine, published ca. 1815 in Paris. The costume in this plate consists of a red turban decorated with large, white feathers and with braids, made with the wearer's hair, held onto it with small brooches, and a dark blue gown, of Renaissance style, with square-cut neckline and white ruffs on the border, long sleeves with puffsh, a robe belt with tassels, and fringed border on the skirt. Gray pearl earrings, a gray pearl necklace with a gray cross pendant, short, white gloves with scalloping edges, a small, scallop-edged white fichu, and white shoes complete the outfit.
