Golden Afternoon, 1908
Childe Hassam (American, 1859–1935)
Oil on canvas; 30 1/16 x 40 3/8 in. (76.4 x 102.6 cm)
Rogers Fund, 1911 (11.40)

Hassam painted nearly thirty landscapes in the desert area of eastern Oregon's Harney County when he visited there during the fall of 1908. This view was painted on the "P" Ranch, where Hassam and his friends stayed. The frame appears to be original to the painting. It bears incised inscriptions with the name Carrig-Rohane, apparently the designer of the frame, and the date 1909.
