Overglaze-painted ceramics known as lajvardina ware (from the Persian lajvard, or "lapis lazuli") were created by firing the turquoise or deep blue glaze and then firing the colors and gold over the glaze. The bowl is richly decorated and shows a typical pattern from the Iranian potter's repertoire.
