Hat
Designer Philip Treacy British
Not on view
Mrs. Kempner's hats, though not an especially large group, are varied and distinctive. From vast brimmed straws, crisply sculpted fedoras, feather trimmed velvet tams, and grosgrain banded leathers, her millinery suggests the opportunity for dramatic effects. Some of the hats came as a part of a couture ensemble, others are by milliners associated with design houses, and, here in the Philip Treacy example, by hat-designers with their own well regarded labels.
