Ensemble

1878
Not on view
The provenance and history, as well as the general appeal of this ensemble are of interest. Worn by Louise Carnahan (Mrs. Deming) at the age of twelve to the wedding of her uncle Oliver Hanna in Fort Wayne, Indiana, on December 5, 1878, the dress is fashioned in women's late 1870s style. It is an excellent example of a young girl's special occasion garment. The extra detail in the dickey effect is especially stylish.
