For headwear, the late 1930s marked an era of creativity in which milliners offered unusual shapes and whimsical trimmings. For this example, milliner Sally Milgrim incorporated a bouquet of autumnal grasses and berries tied with a lush velvet cord to make the straw body appropriate for fall. Careful selection of accessories suited to the time of year enabled a woman to wear wardrobe staples for more than one season. Milliners capitalized on the practice, offering appropriate seasonal themes to coordinate any outfit with the calendar.
