Fan

ca. 1920
Not on view
The outstanding characteristics of this fan is the overlapping sequin work, imitating the overlapping feathers on a bird's body, the bird forms that have been carved as an integral part of sticks, and the replication of the same three birds on the leaf and the sticks. Although it is a late example, it is illustrative of the care lavished on fans for over two centuries.
