Evening dress

Department Store Bergdorf Goodman American
ca. 1929
Not on view
Beginning in 1914, Bergdorf Goodman began to introduce ready-to-wear, making it the destination for leading American and French fashions. This dress, complete with an early Bergdorf label, is special for its visual appeal. The design of the front of the dress is quite different from the back, showing the transition from the tubular silhouette of the 1920s to the more fluid silhouette of the 1930s.
