Oxfords

Exaggerated proportions and eye-catching topstitching were typical of trendy shoes of the late 1960s and 1970s. This pair of oxfords reflects the cartoonish, child-like, feeling with its bulgy "bump toe", contrasting stitching and eyelets, and sturdy heel.
Platform shoes were worn by both sexes at the time, and heels in general tended to be relatively high and bulky, as seen here in the classic chunky heel. The pattern of topstitching resembles that seen on cowboy boots, which were also fashionable for street wear. These shoes, worn by television fashion director, represent the more extreme styles of the young and trendy, and show the increasing emphasis on youth-oriented products.
